Downloading Files from the Internet

Now your file has been downloaded to the directory you specified, or to your temp directory. To launch or view, find the file using Windows Explorer and double-click.

Downloading and Unzipping an Executable File (files that have a .exe extension)

To download a self-extracting zip file, follow the same instructions above.

To unzip the .exe file, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Windows Explorer.
  2. Find the location that was specified to save the file (i.e., C:\TEMP) and double-click on filename.EXE to open it.
  3. Click OK. This launches WinZip's self-extractor. It will ask you where you want to put the unzipped files. The extractor will suggest placing the files in a default location, which is usually the author's last name_abbreviated supplement name. For example, if the author is Tom Jones and you are downloading the Instructor's Manual - the location name will be C:\jones_im.
  4. If you would like to keep the default location, click the Unzip button. If you would like to enter a new location, type it in the field provided and click the Unzip button. The files will be unzipped and placed in the folder you specified or in the default location.
