News Story

The Wi-Fi revolution is just beginning. While everyone nowadays has a cell phone for personal and professional communication, soon mobile phones will be camera-equipped and able to scan items and place orders over wireless network systems. The possibilities are astounding.

The technology involves having such cameras recognize the ads' ''two-dimensional codes'' that identify merchandise whose images or descriptions appear on TV as commercials or are printed in newspapers. The system will free mobile phone users from the need to enter personal information, such as their addresses and names, by pressing the buttons of their handsets, since it can automatically send such data to vendors.

For example, if a mobile phone user sees a newspaper ad for a handbag, the phone user has only to hold the handset up over the two-dimensional codes for the item printed by the side of its photo, so that the camera can recognize the item. The mobile phone would then automatically transmit to the vendor an order for the item as well as the shopper's personal data which has been registered in the mobile handset's memory beforehand. The handbag would then be delivered to the shopper's household.
