Downloading Files from the Internet

Now your file has been downloaded to the directory you specified, or to your temp directory. To launch or view, find the file using Windows Explorer and double-click.

Downloading and Unzipping an Executable File (files that have a .exe extension)

To download a self-extracting zip file, follow the same instructions above.

To unzip a file, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start on your Windows Taskbar, the click Run.
  2. Use the Browse button and go to the place where you stored the file (i.e., C:\TEMP) and double-click on filename.EXE to open it.
  3. Click OK. This launches WinZip's self-extractor. It will ask you where you want to put the unzipped files. The extractor will suggest placing the files in a default location, which is usually a temporary folder on your hard-drive called C:\WINDOWS\TEMP. Unless you want to put them somewhere else, go ahead and click the Unzip button. The files will be unzipped and placed in the C:\WINDOWS\TEMP (or in the folder you designated in the step above).
  4. If you want to place the files in a specific folder, key in the location or browse to it.

Installing Unzipped Software

If you have downloaded a software application, it may require you to run the install routine.

  1. Click Start on your Windows Taskbar, the click Run.
  2. Use the Browse button and go to the directory where you placed the unzipped files (i.e., C:\WINDOWS\TEMP) and double-click on Setup.exe. Click OK.
  3. This launches the installation routine. Follow the steps outlined as the software is installed.
