News Story

The Senate voted 93-3 to renew a ban on Internet access taxes for four years by preventing state and local governments from taxing Internet service but preserving some existing taxes. The compromise would allow a handful of states that began taxing dial-up Internet access before the ban was imposed in 1998 to continue to do so during the four-year extension. The bill also would let states tax phone service as it moves to the Internet.
