"We advise students to start coming to the career center as early as their freshman year, and increasingly many of our services are not offered in the center itself. So what we really emphasize is students access to career services wherever it might be. It might be in our office certainly, which is the primary focus on our campus, but also we offer a number of our services on the web, and we also believe that taking advantage of any learning moment a student has, and most of that occurs in the classroom and with their academic advisors; so our strategy actually is to provide those individuals with information to integrate into their curriculum, in their advising sessions so that, students can have this information on a daily basis."
"Networking is more critical for some majors than for others. Particularly those majors where jobs are located in what we call the 'hidden job market.'. . . A number of the social service fields….' Any student who is pursuing a career with a major that does not lead directly to a particular career, such as accounting, packaging, engineering, computer science."
"Our university has two main offices that list internship opportunities and an internship career fair is also hosted. Credit internships should have clear learning objectives incorporated into them. Regular supervision should be provided as well as a job description. Students should also understand that the internship should be a learning experience. Expectations need to be discussed with the employer before agreeing to participate in the internship."
